HELLO, MY NAME IS THEODORA…

… Psychotherapist under supervision, relationship coach, consultant, biomedicine and neuroscience graduate.

Quick Facts

About Me

  • I have over 3000 hours of clinical practice with clients: individuals, couples, and groups. I have worked with clients from every continent: Europe (UK, Germany, France, Spain, Bulgaria, Sweden, Norway, Greece, and more), North America (US and Canada), Australia, South America, Africa, and Asia.
  • I am based in Sofia, Bulgaria. I have lived in the UK, Spain, and Sweden, while I pursued my Bachelors and Masters degrees.
  • In addition to coaching, I worked as product manager. I am passionate about building products, which leave a mark.
  • I have co-authored a paper in the field of dementia: “Cholinergic dysfunction, neurodegeneration, and amyloid-beta pathology in neurodegenerative diseases”, which evaluates a novel biomarker of cholinergic dysfunction for early diagnosis of dementia.
  • I did both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. I believe it is important to raise the awareness and to challenge the stigma that persists around Alzheimer’s disease and all types of dementia, so I volunteer for Alzheimer Bulgaria Association.
  • I love animals. I have 2 cats and a dog.
  • I believe in the importance of physical self care through movement, sports, massage, meditation, and connecting to nature, so I love strength training, boxing, tennis, hiking, and more.
  • I love to travel. I believe that travelling helps us expand mentally and emotionally, just as new experiences expand our emotional landscape.
  • Just as everyone else, I have had my own mental and emotional challenges. My belief that it is possible to transform your life and go from feeling at “rock bottom” to peace, happiness, and resilience comes from my own 20s and overcoming my own negative relationship patterns, like people pleasing and codependency, and transforming my love life from toxic relationships and unrequited love to a love-filled partnership. My experiences have helped me form deep empathy for the issues and understanding what change takes; however, my journey is not your journey, so I won’t bring my history into our work.
  • I believe in continuous learning and investment in self development, both academically, and personally. In my field of work, the more I develop as an individual, the greater my capacity to be there for you.  I believe that our life is constantly challenging us to grow, and the more we grow, the more connected, fulfilled we feel, but also the greater things we can unlock for ourselves.

Education

2015 - 2017 Masters of Biomedicine, Karolinska Institute, Sweden

My journey started as a biomedicine student who focused on neuroscience. My courses dealt with human biology and physiology, specifically that of the nervous system and the brain. Although I ended up publishing a scientific paper, I decided I was not as passionate about pursuing a career in the laboratory, but rather understanding how these insights about the human brain translate into the science of behaviour. Advances in neuroscience help solidify psychological theory in some cases; in others, it provides breakthroughs that challenge classical ways of thinking. My education left a mark on my scientific approach to life: I learned to research my information and evaluate all critically and analytically.

2017 - 2018 The Art and Craft of Coaching, Aligned Action, Bulgaria

This course introduced me to the power of coaching (an approach, focused on supporting the client to reach a certain goal). It gave me some of the foundational but most powerful transformative techniques that I use regularly in sessions.

2021 - 2022 Couples & Family Consulting (Year 1), Institute of Family Therapy

This is one type of psychotherapy, which works with relationships. The core belief is that the family is a system, which has the potential to handle all difficulties, transitions, and crisis, especially when both partners, or all family members participate and take responsibility for the change they want to create. It is applicable to individuals as well, as it explores their relationships with significant people. In addition to my studies, I am regularly supervised.

My approach

Philosophy and Style

People I work with would describe my style as “warm”, “soft” and “compassionate” while being direct about what I see. I put an emphasis on empathy and really getting to know you and your story. I provide safe and non-judgemental space so you can share and explore your story, experiences, and emotions. My goal is to bring new insight, through sharing an informed perspective on your experiences. I do not give advice or make decisions for you, but I will explore together with you different courses of actions and build a step-by-step action plan.

My own healing journey helped me form genuine empathy for my clients’ challenges. However, what worked for me, might not work for you.

I believe that you know what is best for you. My role is to support you in getting the information you need and connecting back to yourself more easily.

I believe that the success of coaching and consulting rests upon the collaborative partnership between the individual or a couple and the professional. My desire is that you are honest with yourself and willing to be vulnerable; thet you are open to self-discovery and do not overlook any feeling, thought, or emotion which comes up. I encourage you to be asking questions, giving me feedback or even disagreeing

My approach

Modalities

I combine my knowledge of neuroscience, coaching, systemic and family consulting, philosophy and spirituality. I am fascinated by the many connections between the different self development methods, which became the foundation of my holistic and informed approach to personal growth. I have been trained to use and integrate:
  • Neuroscience
  • Couples and Family therapy
  • Somatic Therapies
  • CBT
  • Hypnotherapy
  • EMDR therapy
There is no “One-size fits all” as each individual or couple is unique, so I design and tailor our sessions to your specific / unique needs and goals.
My approach

Ethics and Quality

I hold deep respect for every person I work with, regardless of their ethnical background, religions, and sexual orientations, and beliefs. I respect and appreciate your uniqueness.

Ethics matter for me a lot because I realize the impact my work and input can have on a person’s life. I treat the trust my clients put in me with a great sense of care and responsibility. If you experience issues beyond my expertise, I would support you in finding a colleague who can support you better.

The quality of the services I provide matters greatly to me. Thus, I constantly work on increasing my knowledge and competency on various subjects. I work under regular supervision and peer-to-peer learning.
